Like all people, I have certain strengths and particular weaknesses. Growing up I always aced history and English classes, but wasn't as gifted in mathematics and science.
Maybe it has to do with the certainty of the answers one finds in math and science: 2+2 is always 4; the chemical compound for water is always two hydrogens and one oxygen. Whereas one can debate whether the American Revolution began in 1775 with the attacks on Lexington and Concord, or ten years earlier when the British Parliament passed the Stamp Act.
The reason doesn't matter. I always knew that there would come a day when my skill set and Gus's homework would be incompatible...that day is today.
As he delved into his summer worksheets and faced beginning geometry (a topic I tackled - badly - when I was in 10th grade, not 5th) I knew my days of being all-knowing were over.
My only saving grace is Kelly cannot identify an adverb to save his life!
